Classic Stollen Recipe

Here’s a traditional stollen recipe to bring holiday cheer to your home:

  1. Ingredients:
    • 4 cups all-purpose flour,
    • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast,
    • ½ cup sugar,
    • 1 cup warm milk,
    • ½ cup softened butter,
    • 1 tsp cinnamon,
    • ½ tsp nutmeg,
    • 1 cup raisins,
    • ½ cup candied orange peel,
    • ½ cup chopped almonds,
    • 200g marzipan (optional),
    • Powdered sugar for dusting.
  2. Instructions:
    1. Dissolve yeast in warm milk with a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
    2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add the yeast mixture and butter, kneading until a soft dough forms.
    3. Mix in raisins, orange peel, and almonds. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
    4. Roll the dough into an oval, place marzipan in the center, and fold the dough over it. Shape into a loaf.
    5. Place on a baking sheet, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
    6. Bake for 30-40 minutes until golden brown. Cool completely, then dust generously with powdered sugar.

Enjoy your homemade stollen, a delightful blend of tradition, flavor, and festive spirit!
